St. Clair Yacht Club has more tools for communication and networking than ever before. For some members it's good news and for others it's another computer challenge, another thing to learn. These new additions include our main website and also our Yahoo Group. They are only effective if members turn to these resources for staying informed and involved.
Here's a little background to get up to speed. This page will help you join a group, change your password or change an email address. The SCYC group is located at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/saintclairyachtclub/
What’s a Yahoo! Group?
A Yahoo! Group is any group — your family, friends you see every summer, business associates, your book group, etc. — that uses Yahoo! Groups to privately share info, images, ideas and more — on the web. It’s free, secure and spam-protected.
How do I join a group?
Join via the group’s page:
- Once you’ve located a group to join (at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/saintclairyachtclub/), click Join This Group in the upper-right corner of the group’s page.
- Haven’t signed in yet? You’ll be asked to enter your Yahoo! ID. If you don’t have one, register by clicking Sign Up at the top of the page.
- Set your membership preferences. Choose a profile you'd like to display to the group, select the email address at which you'd like to receive group messages, choose how you receive group messages, and more.
The image below shows a portion of the SCYC Yahoo Group home page. All members with an email account were invited to join however few members responded to the invitation. Those members who responded to the invitation have full access to group features. In the future, much of SCYC member to member communication will be conducted online to ensure instant, uniform distribution. If you wish to join the group, go the group and click on the "Join This Group" button.
I'm
receiving email from the SCYC group, but when I try to visit the
group's webpages, it says that I "need to enable web access".
If you join the email list of a Yahoo! Group without using a Yahoo! ID, you won’t have access to the group's web features until you follow the instructions below:
- Go to the Yahoo! Groups Membership Wizard. You’ll be asked to sign in with your Yahoo! ID. (If you’re not a registered Yahoo! member, you may sign up for a free account on this page. Once you complete your registration, you’ll be returned to the Membership Wizard.)
- Make sure the email address where you’re receiving messages from the group appears in the Membership Wizard. If it doesn’t appear, add it via the link provided. (If you add an address, you’ll be sent a verification email to that address to assure that you own it. Please check your email and follow the instructions in the message sent to you. Then, return to the Membership Wizard.)
- Once your email address appears in the Membership Wizard as verified, continue with the steps in the wizard to get "web access" to all your groups.
Now you’ll be recognized when you go to the group’s Yahoo! home page.
- Access your group web features, such as Photos, Files, Calendar, and more.
- Choose email delivery settings for all your groups, via the Groups web site. Just visit the My Groups page.
How do I change my password?
Keep your account secure! Here's how:
- Log in to your Yahoo! Mail account.
- Click "My Account" at the top of the page, just below where you see "Welcome, yourname."
- Enter your password and click "Continue."
- Click the Change Password link, located near the top of this page.
- Enter your Current Password in the space provided.

Note: Passwords are case sensitive (so PASSWORD, PaSsWoRd, and password are not the same). - Confirm your New Password by typing it again. A strong password contains a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters.

Your Yahoo! password always applies to your entire Yahoo! account. This means that it is valid not only for Yahoo! Mail, but also for Yahoo! Messenger, the Yahoo! Music Engine, My Yahoo!, Yahoo! Finance, and all of Yahoo!'s other personalized services.
For more information on Yahoo! IDs and passwords, please visit the Sign-in and Registration Help Page.

Joining a Group
I've just received an email invitation to join a group. What do I do now? How do I join a group? How do I set up my Yahoo! Groups account? What information is publicized when I participate in Yahoo! Groups? Do I need a Yahoo! email address to use Yahoo! Groups?
